2006-01-13 [~~Butterfly Angel~~]: I have a question for you I may sound stupid but I have not entered a contest before how do I enter this contest? sorry if I sound dumb.
2006-01-13 [windowframe]: Go to the Contestants page and follow the instructions there.
2006-01-13 [donezo]: i love some of the rules, because i hate those people who copy char's
2006-01-13 [Kitsune Arashi]: Yeah, or foced attacks. I hate that! People who think they're so sly because they hit you before you have a chance to do anything about it. I had a character that sold his soul to the devil just so I could get back at the stupid bugger for killing me four times in two posts!
2006-01-13 [NamelessMerc]: o.0 Didn't the page owner do anything about it? Blatant powerplay...
2006-01-13 [windowframe]: o. < I had to do something like that too - I had a harpy character and someone powerplayed cutting off her wings. o.< So I did a trade with a god, her voice for her wings.
2006-01-13 [NamelessMerc]: Bah, I've only ever been powerplayed to death. Rather annoying but the mod was cool so he edited the powerplay and I was told to kill off the powerplaying character...
2006-01-13 [Fizban]: Lucky you Merc!! I have been fortunate enough to stay out of "most" situations like that,...when an area is known to powerplay, I leave it cold turkey right then if I think it has no real potential.
2006-01-13 [NamelessMerc]: Well it was only the one character, which is why the mod decided to get rid of him... It was quite the finish, actually. As I remember it, his death factored in a bastard sword, rapier and a crossbow-bolt to the groin. Not pretty XD
2006-01-13 [Kitsune Arashi]: No, no one did anything about it, and I war really pissed, so I just left. I like letting my characters get hit, it makes their comebacks so much more interesting.
2006-01-13 [Fire fae]: *giggles* this contest should be running in the et chat. Maybe then some people could learn those rules.
2006-01-13 [Kitsune Arashi]: no kidding. *ppout* I hate forced attacks more than anything else in rp's! People should leanr to respect their opponents, just like in a real fight.
2006-01-13 [iippo]: Those who do not play fair, do not get past round 2.
2006-01-13 [Fizban]: there are so many How to rp and roleplaying for dummies...I wanna like put them on probation or something...li
2006-01-13 [Kitsune Arashi]: That's good, because then I would have to play cheep and I don't like doing that... *grr* How I hate them...
2006-01-13 [Fire fae]: Will be dificult to judge past a certain point, good luck.
2006-01-13 [iippo]: It will be difficult to get past a certain point, so good luck to you all. :P
2006-01-13 [Kitsune Arashi]: What do you meant by that?
2006-01-13 [Fire fae]: Hence why I'm not entering. XD
2006-01-13 [iippo]: I don't mean anything, I'm kidding.
2006-01-13 [Kitsune Arashi]: ...um... *is confused* okay...
2006-01-13 [iippo]: There has just been a lot of comments like "you can't judge rp!" If we didn't know how we are going to judge this, we wouldn't be going through the trouble of making it, would we? A lot of people seem to think this from the point of view from judges, when they are not judges.
2006-01-13 [iippo]: We have discussed this for a long while now, planned it all out -- a lot of thought is in here and it's not some half-arsed little thing. It's an official contest. We know what we're doing, or if we don't we will sit down (us the judges) and find it out. I know it's a new concept, but people just need open minds and trust us. We're not telling everything to you contesttants, because that will spoil all the fun. It's not serious business here, just enjoy the ride and see how far it will take you.
2006-01-13 [Fire fae]: It's subjective, yes but I think it's quite simple to judge. Look for orininality, imagination, creativity as long as seing how they deal with the situation, how they type and how interesting do they make it so there is always an open line of RP.
2006-01-13 [Kitsune Arashi]: Oh! Okies!
2006-01-13 [iippo]: You can see what the criteria is, but you feel it can't be judged after a certain point? :/ There is good players and bad players, but there are also good players and better players and in the end there will be a best player. The judging in the end will be more subtle, nuances and all that jazz, but doable.
2006-01-13 [Fire fae]: I didn't say that, I just said it would be dificult because thei'll be really god after some point. :P
2006-01-13 [iippo]: Sorry. But who was the good luck aimed at then?
2006-01-13 [windowframe]: *innocent whistle**did not just copy/paste the wrong image* <.< >.>
2006-01-13 [Fizban]: I take it by the feel I get from the rp...and that feeling is comprised of what they write...a good post leaves me feeling woo...a bad...ewww...a good would need to be comprised of the criteria to make me feel as such,...origin
2006-01-13 [Fire fae]: everyone, both RPers and judges because I know at some point people might disagree with the judging and yeah... @_@ I'm looking foreward to the start. :)
2006-01-13 [iippo]: 1) You're not necessarely fighting against other players. 2) You're not necessarely fighting at all. 3) Best player might not be most victorious in battle but the best in the act. Compare good movie actors and bad ones. Schwarzenegger could kick Johnny Depp's ass, but Depp is still better actor.
2006-01-13 [Duredhel]: You can loose the fight and still win the round if you RP your character with depth, originality, etc.
2006-01-13 [Fizban]: GOOD!! yays^_^,...tha
2006-01-13 [Kitsune Arashi]: So basicly, it's based on writting abilites?
2006-01-13 [Fizban]: not soley, you can be a good writer and still be unoriginal in character as well as in your actions that you write about....
2006-01-13 [iippo]: It is about being a good actor.
2006-01-13 [Fizban]: I am guessing the guy who is original and unique and a pretty good writer could beat the guy thats quite unoriginal, but a better writer...
2006-01-13 [Kitsune Arashi]: Hmm... I don't know if you can really call it 'acting' though, because it's still writing. You have to be a good writer to make it seem like a good, real life action I suppose... I dunno.
2006-01-13 [Duredhel]: Its about good roleplaying :)
2006-01-13 [windowframe]: Feel free to keep on guessing, [Fizban].
2006-01-13 [Fizban]: lols,...um, okay...I know I will, but I dont know if you want me too...I was making what I thought was an educated guess,...guess
2006-01-13 [windowframe]: That was more af a 'we're not going to tell you :P' than a 'NO! O_O you're wrong, how dare you!' ^^;; Sorry, I should include more emotes so people know when I'm joking o.<
2006-01-13 [Duredhel]: I second that ^_^
2006-01-13 [windowframe]: *grin* Wonder why :P
2006-01-13 [NamelessMerc]: Has anyone actually submitted a female character that isn't beautiful yet? I think I might add one who's had her face ripped off by some beast.
2006-01-13 [Faulty Limerence]: Hahahahahahah XD! Capital idea Merc!
2006-01-13 [Kai Crewger]: *laughs* what, do all the female char-sheets say that their beautiful? I know mine didn't... *goes to check it out*
2006-01-13 [Kai Crewger]: *back* never mind. too much reading. :P @.@
2006-01-13 [Faulty Limerence]: Hahah.
2006-01-13 [Kai Crewger]: Jing! And FFTA!!!
2006-01-13 [NamelessMerc]: It doesn't say she is, but then I'm talking someone who's blatantly unattractive.
2006-01-13 [Faulty Limerence]: Hahah blatantly? So she's unattractive as an act of defiance?
2006-01-13 [Kai Crewger]: *pokes Baka-san incessantly*
2006-01-13 [Faulty Limerence]: GAH! Don't DO that!
2006-01-13 [Kai Crewger]: Jing! and Tactics Advance! And go check out the characters I submitted for the tournament.
2006-01-13 [Fizban]: Oh, okay thank you lols...and thats okay, I didnt expect you to tell us, becuase its not that cut and dry, or at least I hope its not...I would think the judges would judge on some feel in it as well...
2006-01-13 [Faulty Limerence]: I hope that, if we are being pit against one another, that the judges do not award points for winning the fight, but for how we RP. Meaning of course that, even if you lose, that doesn't mean you are the one to be elliminated.
2006-01-13 [Kai Crewger]: yes. It's a role-playing tournament, meaning you will be judged on how well you RP. language, staying in character, spelling and grammar (please let spelling and grammar be a part of it) and probably also your sportsmanship. So no godmoding, or anything like that.
2006-01-13 [NamelessMerc]: Back to the blatantly thing... Blatantly means openly, or brashly.
2006-01-13 [Faulty Limerence]: You know me. I take hits too, not just give them. And you know I'll be on top of the spelling and grammar. At least, compared to most of the people on Elftown.
2006-01-13 [Fizban]: You guys (the judges) are prolly gonna wanna say in bolded lettering that winning hte fight doesnt mean you win the contest,...bec
2006-01-13 [Veltzeh]: Another grammar nazi? :D
2006-01-13 [Faulty Limerence]: And since ugly is in defiance with today's and your typical RP's standards, it would be an act of symbolical defiance.
2006-01-13 [Kai Crewger]: GRAMMAR IS GOOD FOR T3|-| KAI. THOSE WHO DO NOT USE GRAMMAR WILL BE SEVERELY FROWNED UPON.
2006-01-13 [Faulty Limerence]: Being openly ugly, I mean.
2006-01-13 [Gluttony]: Nazis?! ...good ol' Nazis...
2006-01-13 [Veltzeh]: SOMEBODY wrote "eliminated" with two l's! I am shocked!
2006-01-13 [Kai Crewger]: *breaks out in laughter* I'm just saying that I start to get twitchy when people don't use good spelling or grammar. it's very annoying, and even though I'm very good at deciphering it sometimes I can't and have no. idea. what they're trying to say.
2006-01-13 [NamelessMerc]: Nah, it was more a return to the classic female hero - The brawny, muscle-bound woman who doesn't let herself be pushed around just because she's of 'the inferior sex'. Not a personal opinion, before anyone takes offence.
2006-01-13 [Kai Crewger]: none taken. ;)
2006-01-13 [Gluttony]: Kai Crewger... shouldn't you capitalize a few of those words...?
2006-01-13 [Faulty Limerence]: No! I made an...*gasp* error! I KNEW it was eliminated!
2006-01-13 [Gluttony]: ...uh huh... *eats ramen*...
2006-01-13 [Kai Crewger]: ... I capitalize when it counts, sometimes when it doesn't. For instance, when I'm commenting it's usually faster to just not capitalize. When I'm RPing, I always capitalize (the proper words. ... you know what I mean.)
2006-01-13 [Faulty Limerence]: I have failed at...SPELLING!
2006-01-13 [Gluttony]: ...suuure... *does six sit-ups*...
2006-01-13 [Kai Crewger]: ...riiiiiight. yeah. *pokes Baka to see if he's really dead*
2006-01-13 [Faulty Limerence]: *twitches* Damn you vile woman!
2006-01-13 [Faulty Limerence]: And...SIX sit ups?!
2006-01-13 [Kai Crewger]: FORESHORTENING IS ANNOYING AS HELL!!!
2006-01-13 [Veltzeh]: Everyone has a superior, eh? XD
2006-01-13 [Faulty Limerence]: Hm...foreshort
2006-01-13 [Kai Crewger]: yeah. you know how when you hold yer hand straight out in front of yer face, you know it's at the end of yer arm, but if you try to draw it you have to draw yer arm really stubby otherwise it doesn't look right.
2006-01-13 [Kai Crewger]: making things shorter, usually arms or legs when yer drawing a pose, is called foreshortening
2006-01-13 [Fizban]: Lols, and easy solution for those that have bad spelling...I mean, normally I dont, because I only make a spelling mistake maybe once a post, and usually its the stupid ones, not like five million of them. But for this, god knows I am putting everything from rp, to word document, back to rp to edit lols. I tolerate no mistakes on an official page...
2006-01-13 [Kai Crewger]: ESPECIALLY when drawing those crap-frickin' fingers!!! *goes off on a rampage by beating the computer casing with pencil erasers*
2006-01-13 [Gluttony]: ...yup... six sit-ups to get rid of the calories in the ramen... *eats ramen*... *does 5.7 sit-ups*... *becomes obese for not doing that .3 of a sit-up*...
2006-01-13 [Kai Crewger]: *pokes the obesity* o.0 ... *goes back to rampaging*
2006-01-13 [Gluttony]: *giggles like the Pilsbury Doughboy*
2006-01-13 [Faulty Limerence]: Hahah! 5.7...right. Hahah.
2006-01-13 [Kai Crewger]: ooh! ooh! Major Payne!! *falls off chair laughing*
2006-01-13 [Faulty Limerence]: Hahah what channel?!
2006-01-13 [Kai Crewger]: nah, I'm just remembering it. the part where Payne's talking to the fat kid.
2006-01-13 [Faulty Limerence]: Ah, okay. Hey I just realized, what happened to IGPX? It wasn't on last Saturday.
2006-01-13 [Kai Crewger]: last saturday... no idea. but they've been advertising another IGPX this saturday, so I'm assuming it'll be on.
2006-01-13 [Faulty Limerence]: Oh okay...phew...
2006-01-13 [Gluttony]: IGPX sucks! ...and the Naruto anime sucks... not the manga, though... but the Fullmetal Alchemist manga and anime... *sticks thumb up*
2006-01-13 [Kai Crewger]: agreed. except IGPX isn't all that bad.
2006-01-14 [Grengo]: From the episodes I've seen (100), the Naruto anime is pretty damn good <_< Naruto, Shikamaru, Neji, Temari, Kiba, Ino, TenTen, and Gaara rule (Sasuke blows, though)
2006-01-14 [3 Dreizig]: The Naruto DUBBING sucks...the show's alright (though the manga is alot better) and FMA just kicks general @$$
2006-01-14 [Kitsune Arashi]: Um... I happen to like IGPX, I think it's a cool idea. If it was real, I would certainly sign up... But yes, naruto should never have been translated. Kakashi sounds like he's eighteen
2006-01-14 [Grengo]: I only saw the first episode of the dubbed version. I dunno, seemed fine to me. On a side note, some random stranger pm'ed me just now asking if I was black. o_0
2006-01-14 [Faulty Limerence]: Okay to be clear. I LOVE IGPX because it has great sound production and music and it focuses more on the pilots than the races. I HATE the American Naruto, and I think the Japanese version is okay. Love the manga. I don't like the FMA anime that much but I love the Manga. The manga did things much much better.
2006-01-14 [Kitsune Arashi]: I'm not to fond of the main characters in IGPX, they aren't very weel developed, but the whole idea of the 'Immortal Gran Prix' fasinates me. I'm a big racing fan and that to me just looks like something I would do, my good friend [HinaZai] tends to think so too. If it ever becomes real, I'll be the first to sign up!
2006-01-14 [Faulty Limerence]: The characters are more developed than most animes out there! What do you mean not well developed? They all have a pretty rich backstory, they just haven't gotten into it yet. They've only had a few episodes.
2006-01-14 [Kitsune Arashi]: Still, I just don't like the way they are... they're not very origonal, but I suppose you can't expect too much from Toonami
2006-01-14 [Faulty Limerence]: I think they are pretty original. Sure they use certain archetypes and rely on those a bit, but there is still plenty of difference. And everything uses archetypes as a basis. Anyway, for me, nothing beats Cowboy Bebop or Ghost in the Shell.
2006-01-14 [NamelessMerc]: *Random butting in* All hail Ninja Scroll! <.<; >.>; And Shadow Skill, oh Spriggan too if you want a particularly realistic (animation-wise) sci-fi/biblica
2006-01-14 [Duredhel]: Champloooo! that's one awesome show. I know no one asked but the holy trinity of anime for me are Champloo, Cowboy Bebop and FMA >_<
2006-01-14 [NamelessMerc]: Never watched FMA...
2006-01-14 [Faulty Limerence]: Champloo is OKAY. It is one big filler episode though. Not enough storyline. And before you ask, yes, I have seen the whole series. And the Fullmetal Alchemist anime is not as good as the manga, although, the first few episodes really knew how to get you emotional. As well as Hughes' funeral.
2006-01-14 [NamelessMerc]: Hm, anyone remember Escaflowne? I saw half of that series... So beautifully animated... Oh, and for the golden oldies, Ultraman 2. I watched that when I was five, hehe.
2006-01-14 [Faulty Limerence]: XD! Ultraman! Oh your god that was sweet when I was little! As far as Escaflowne, maybe I'm the only one who liked the movie better than the series.
2006-01-14 [Kitsune Arashi]: I love Samurai Champloo, that show is really funky
2006-01-14 [Faulty Limerence]: Champloo is just Bebop in Feudal Japan.
2006-01-14 [Kitsune Arashi]: Yeah, I'm with you on that, it's very true... but what's wrong with that?
2006-01-14 [Duredhel]: I love champloo, and I've also seen the whole show. Just the fact that they manage to fit in so much character development in such a small storyline. Its not one of those animes that hand you everything in a silver platter. And i don't mind the filler in this case, its beautifully made. Not to mention the whole show has flawless animation, an advantage of short shows.
2006-01-14 [NamelessMerc]: (0.0) Someone remembers Ultraman!!!
2006-01-14 [Faulty Limerence]: Argh the animation is NOT flawless. While done well it is still not in the top five. And foxy up there (Kitsune) it is bad because it is not done as well as Bebop. My point with Champloo is it is ALL character development with no real substance to tie it all together. You have to have a good balance.
2006-01-14 [Faulty Limerence]: And yes, I REMEMBER ULTRAMAN! That's right I said it!
2006-01-14 [Kitsune Arashi]: *hmm..* I suppose so...
2006-01-14 [Faulty Limerence]: Some of the best animated shows are Bebop, Last Exile, IGPX, and Ghost in the Shell.
2006-01-14 [NamelessMerc]: Whee Ultraman *Goes off on a tangent* As Ultramans energy fades this jewel goes from blue, to yellow, to red. o.0; I'm gonna be like this all night now...
2006-01-14 [Faulty Limerence]: Don't they take them to another planet to ressurect them?
2006-01-14 [Kitsune Arashi]: IGPX was really well animated, those races are amazing, I could watch those for hours on end... as a matter of fact... they're the only reason I do watch it...
2006-01-14 [NamelessMerc]: XD The Ultraman? He is inside one of the soldiers, he recharges his energy whenever he finishes fighting and the star jewel on his forehead finishes pulsing red.
2006-01-14 [Faulty Limerence]: Well, actually, I didn't like the way they showed the races. They zoomed in too much on the combat and did too may fancy angles so you never could REALLY see what was going on. Besides that's CG animation. Not a big fan. I like the actual hand animated stuff. They really make those characters move smoothly and fluidly. And I WANT that handheld game!
2006-01-14 [Kitsune Arashi]: I don't want a frikn' game I want to do it! That looks like so much fun!
2006-01-14 [Faulty Limerence]: No I mean the little handheld game that he plays when he isn't racing
2006-01-14 [Kitsune Arashi]: *lol* You've got to be kidding me... *sigh*
2006-01-14 [Faulty Limerence]: Oh and im thinking of all the other Ultraman series's.
2006-01-14 [Faulty Limerence]: Hey that game is sweet! That little dog thing is vicious!
2006-01-14 [Kitsune Arashi]: It's so boring, but I guess you need something like that to wind down with after a race like that. Me on the other hand, I'd be out practicing every minuet I had the chance.
2006-01-14 [Kai Crewger]: Ultraman? *rings a bell, but can't quite remember*
2006-01-14 [Grengo]: Sounds like a Mega Man character <_<
2006-01-14 [NamelessMerc]: Big giant man who lived in a star/planet(?) and helped the people of earth by giving a star jewel to one of their space pilots, which allowed him to fight evil monsters on Earth for a short period of time... But that was Ultraman 2
2006-01-14 [Kai Crewger]: ... nope, can't recall anything. oh well. *shrugs*
2006-01-14 [Wes Foxx]: *nods and pretends to understand* All I know is, no matter where, what, when, who, or any other question words you throw in, none of it will matter; its how you react to the other person during the RP that'll win or loose it for ya :b
2006-01-14 [Kai Crewger]: ... well okay then.
2006-01-14 [Kitsune Arashi]: That was a little while back.
2006-01-14 [Kai Crewger]: yeah, I gathered that. so much commenting... @.@
2006-01-14 [Wes Foxx]: Just trying to keep us from getting insanely off-topic :P thats what messages are for.
2006-01-14 [Kai Crewger]: *shrugs* comments boxes are better if you have more than two in the same convo.
2006-01-14 [Wes Foxx]: Comment boxes -> people talking about the wiki stuff :P Forums -> many people talking about something unrelated.
2006-01-14 [Wes Foxx]: No one ever seems to use forums around here Oo
2006-01-14 [Kai Crewger]: I don't even know how to work a forum...
2006-01-14 [dracos8]: ... O o Oh Wow. This place sounds like mucho fun. I might try it out. Haven't ever done online rping before but... ^ ^ it could be fun. dunno though...
2006-01-14 [Kai Crewger]: it is very fun. If yer new at this tho, I really reccomend you go to Roleplaying for Dummies
2006-01-14 [Nylen Estrall]: Finally, a contest for non-artistic fantasy fans :)
2006-01-14 [iippo]: Rping is a creative process as well. :) *ish so amazed at all the interested people so does a little dance*
2006-01-14 [Blood Raven]: well you could have expected it :P I love it, it's like all the true RP lovers unite in one wiki! ^^ I see alot of well-known names too :)
2006-01-14 [iippo]: And after this, you can seek out role-players, because people will get a badge saying "i participated in le torunament" :D
2006-01-14 [Kai Crewger]: yay! *does happy spins in the swivel chair*
2006-01-14 [Kitsune Arashi]: That would be nice... but at the same time, you can pinpoint which ones aren't very good.
2006-01-14 [Kai Crewger]: *ahem*
2006-01-14 [Falx]: Would it be all right to post a picture of the character along with the bio? Or would you prefer that it just be written?
2006-01-14 [Kai Crewger]: I think they said that it should be written. It challenges yer writing skills more. Not entirely sure on that one, tho...
2006-01-14 [iippo]: I'm hoping we get phasing badges (like photography does) so we'd be able to do a "I survived until round 5" kinds of things, that would help people see it clearer who got how far in tourny. But i think even the ones who get through round 1 (=the ones who will get badges) will all be fairly good or at least developing rpers, so the badge will still indicate fair skill in the game.
2006-01-14 [Kitsune Arashi]: I would keep to writing it. I have a pic of one of my characters, but I think it's better if you can discribe it to the pint where a picture would be direspectful to your description... but that's just me
